# Permissions the extension asks for

What the extension asks the browser for, and why.

| Permission                                                             | Why                                                                                                                         |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **storage** | Remember your watch-only accounts, connected sites, networks, contacts, settings and activity. |
| **scripting** | Inject the wallet provider (`window.ethereum`, EIP-6963) into web pages so dApps can find it, and draw the signing overlay. |
| **Read and change data on all websites** (`http://*/*`, `https://*/*`) | Same reason: a dApp can be on any domain. The extension only reacts when a page calls the wallet API. |
| **notifications** (optional) | *Transaction notifications*: tell you when a sent transaction confirms or fails. Off until you enable it. |
| **camera** (asked by the browser, per site) | Read your Vault's QR codes. Asked once, in a full tab. See [Camera permission](/browser-extension/camera-permission.md). |
| **sidePanel** (Chrome, Edge) | Open the wallet beside the page. |

## What it does not ask for

No clipboard reading, no tabs history, no downloads, no geolocation, no identity.

## What leaves your browser

See [Privacy](/reference/privacy.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://doc.lockerprotocol.com/reference/extension-permissions.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
